Women should have an annual physical including breast exam and pelvic exam in addition to the screenings for individual needs.

Women between ages 18 and 29:

• Get the HPV vaccination.

• Get a PAP smear test for cervical cancer every 3 years (more often if you had a previous abnormal PAP or at high risk for cervix cancer).

Women between ages 30 and 49:

• Get a pap smear every 5 years (more often if you had a previous abnormal PAP or at high risk for cervix cancer).

• Consult Doctor Whiteley about whether you should have mammograms.

Women between ages 50 and up:

• Get annual mammograms.

• Have a pap smear every 5 years (more often if you had a previous abnormal PAP or at high risk for cervix cancer).

• Bone density test after age 50.

• Screen for colon cancer with an annual stool blood test and/or colonoscopy every 10 years (more often if you have risks for colon cancer)

Once a woman has gone through menopause, had a hysterectomy, have other risk factors or on medications Doctor Whiteley may recommend a different screening schedule.

If you are having female problems or just need wellness a exam Dr. Whiteley encourages you to schedule an appointment to have your case evaluated and arrangements can be made to customize your care for your personal needs.
